I have been a fan of this dessert for years and have had some fine renditions, but this is the crème of the crop. The pumpkin flavor is just right, meaning it doesn’t overpower the delicate flavors of the other ingredients. The level of sweetness is perfect and the texture is divine. Preparation is laughably simple, if you can make Jello you will have no problem with this one (but you will have a much better dessert). One note, I strongly recommend the use of a kitchen torch to carmelize the glaze, using the broiler method will cause the top layer of the crème to warm too much. Any small torch will do, I bought mine at a big box hardware store for under $20.00 and I use it all of the time. All in all this is the finest “not from scratch” dessert I have ever tasted. If there were room for six stars it would get them.
